Description

Jon Hamm stars as Mason Skiles, a former U.S. diplomat, who gets sent to Beirut to negotiate a swap for the release of a terrorist leader, believed to be imprisoned by Israeli secret police, in exchange for a CIA agent who has been kidnapped. Confronted by ghosts from his past, Mason faces a formidable question: Who do you trust in a world where the truth emerges only when it's convenient – or profitable? From the writer of the Bourne trilogy, this taut action thriller also stars Rosamund Pike and Dean Norris and is being hailed by critics as "tense & ever-twisting" (Richard Roeper, Chicago Sun-Times).

This one feels close to the real thing. It’s not your typical 007 or MI. That’s kind of how things work in the real world.

An entertaining political thriller that will keep you engaged . . . until the rather unsatisfying ending.

I didn’t think I was gonna like this, but it turned out to be a good movie. It’s well done.

The political bile is strong in this one...if the trailer was an honest preview of the move.

Very hard to see what has happened to Lebanon, but I guess from what I have read this is pretty accurate.

Some critics are praising the movie "despite its flaws" but for me this was a perfect film for a night at home when I'm ready to actually pay attention to something versus just throwing on a mainstream special-effects-fest. In short, the writing delivered a gripping, exciting plot and in the complex political environment with multiple interests complicating a seemingly straightforward, albeit high-stakes, negotiation. Excellent performances, skilled use of action, quality filmmaking all around.

Little more than a neoliberal propaganda film that now looks badly out of place in the current political climate.

Should have listened to the negative critics. Slow. Wooden. Gave up after 1/2 hour.

They use a lot of worn out character types and plot twists so you can sense what will happen next, and the dialogue is often cliche, so the movie plods. But the stars are good enough to keep one's attention. Liberal slant. Depressing - like a 70s movie with Jane Fonda.
