In this psychological drama, the viewer gets an insiders’ look at the hows and whys affluence often creates sociopaths.
  • A little bland

Not much of a thriller. Movie was kinda flat. A very average film about a very interesting family. Plummer is excellent. I expected a lot more from Ridley Scott.
  • Good job

I didn’t even know about the whole Kevin spacey thing and now I can’t imagine him in it. Plummer did a great job. The real star is definitely Michelle Williams. Mark whalberg, not terrible for a one trick pony.

When my class was talking about this in reading and my teacher brought up the movie, I was all for it. Ridley Scott’s best movie since ever!!!! The actors are great at their roles, the storyline is simple or follow (if you know about this story before movie came out).
  • Not bad, but not great...

It felt slow and draggy overall. Never felt tremendously invested in any of the characters; some of the actors seemed slightly miscast. (Wahlberg’s not bad, but as a super-sophisticated, multi-lingual, ex-CIA type who prefers finesse over thug stuff?) Even the scenes that should’ve been suspenseful really weren’t. Some flashbacks examining some of how the old man became who he was might’ve given him more depth, or at least made him more interesting (of course, maybe the point was that he had no depth, etc.). Atmosphere and production values were excellent, but that’s pretty much a given. Generally didn’t feel like a Ridley Scott movie. For all the people who think Spacey would’ve made this film better - that’s ridiculous. Ever since “American Beauty,” he can’t help chewing scenery any more than he can help molesting young men. Overall, not a bad movie - just seems it could’ve been better.
  • Left a lot to be desired

I thought this movie was predictable all the way through. I also agree that Kevin Spacey would have probably been a better fit for the villain. Not the worst I have ever seen but nothing to write home about!
  • The film was...OK

I have seen some reviews saying, "great acting". I don't know if I would go that far. The story is intriguing, but the movies left a lot to be desired. It's defintely worth watching, but don't expect to be blown away.
  • Christopher Plummer is Perfect as Getty

Christopher Plummer is perfect as Getty, as is Michelle; Mark Wahlberg does his Wahlberg thing well. We know exactly how Spacey would have played Getty — House of Cards with grey hair and without the southern accent. It's easy to imagine how Spacey would haver played Getty; it is impossible to imagine this movie without Christopher Plummer. Beyond that, it's a good movie, not a great one.

The the whole word here is accused not convicted...and now his career has been ended. reminds me of when actors careers were ruined in the 50's based on accucations and not convictions!
